Balfour Beatty has won a contract with NHS Highland for two projects in Caithness.

As the principal supply chain partner and managing contractor for the Lochaber and Caithness hospitals redesign projects, Balfour will lead the design and construction of a new hospital in Fort William as well as the refurbishment of Caithness General Hospital in Wick.

The two projects will cost over £160m.

The Caithness General project is one part of a programme to update adult health and social care services in Caithness as NHS Highland plans to upgrade rural hospitals over the next seven years.

Balfour Beatty’s Scotland managing director Hector MacAulay said: “I am delighted that Balfour Beatty has been selected to design and deliver the Lochaber and Caithness General Hospital redesign projects.

“We look forward to continuing our successful collaborative working relationship with NHS Highland, and providing first-class healthcare facilities to the communities in Lochaber and Caithness.”

NHS Highland’s senior officer for the hospital upgrades Louise Alcott said: “We have a successful track record of working with Balfour Beatty and this relationship is further strengthened by this appointment.

“We look forward to working closely with Balfour Beatty and local communities over the next few years in delivering innovative, sustainable health and social care facilities in Lochaber and Caithness.”
