Acres Engineering Wins King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity
We are honored to have been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity — the UK’s highest business honour.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise recognise outstanding achievement across UK business, and this award highlights Acres Engineering’s long-standing commitment to social mobility, apprenticeships, and workforce development within UK manufacturing.
For over a decade, Acres Engineering has worked to break down barriers into engineering through its People First Pledge — a structured, values-led approach to creating opportunities for individuals from non-traditional, disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds. Through apprenticeships, work experience placements, and long-term career development, the business has created clear and accessible pathways into engineering careers, fabrication, and advanced manufacturing.
The impact of this approach is reflected in the outcomes achieved. Individuals who began their journey with limited exposure to industry have progressed into skilled roles, leadership positions, higher education, and in some cases, have gone on to establish their own businesses. This demonstrates the value of combining technical training with mentoring, confidence-building, and a supportive working environment.
Acres Engineering operates within Derbyshire, a region identified as a social mobility “cold spot”, and is committed to improving access to opportunity within the local community and the wider manufacturing sector. The company works closely with schools and colleges across the Midlands to raise awareness of careers in engineering and provide practical entry routes into industry.
The business would like to recognise the contribution of its apprentices, past and present, whose ambition and commitment continue to shape its success. It also recognises the dedication of its team, whose focus on supporting and developing people is embedded across all levels of the organisation, and the continued support of customers and partners who value both technical excellence and social impact.
As part of this recognition, Alison Parker will represent Acres Engineering at St James’s Palace, attending a reception hosted by His Majesty King Charles III — a truly momentous milestone for the business.
This award reinforces Acres Engineering’s position as a UK manufacturing SME delivering both engineering excellence and measurable social impact, and strengthens its commitment to continuing to develop talent and create opportunity.
Talent is everywhere. Opportunity isn’t.
