Councillor Tony King visits Acres to discuss Clean Growth & Regeneration
Acres we were honoured to welcome Councillor Tony King to our site to discuss all things Clean Growth and Regeneration. Acres is situation in the East Midlands which is not only the heart of the National Forest and home of some fantastic companies such as Rolls-Royce, Toyota Manufacturing UK, ALSTOM (all of which Acres are a tier one supplier to). The East Midlands also has a very positive future with the East Midlands Freeport and also the UK’s largest Inland Hydrogen Cluster.
The UK Government declared the East Midlands Freeport (EMF) a successful Freeport bid in March 2021. As the sole inland Freeport in the UK, EMF is set to catalyse economic rejuvenation throughout the East Midlands. Central to its mission is an exceptional coalition of world-class partners dedicated to generating tens of thousands of jobs, enhancing skills, and advancing the region’s efforts toward decarbonisation and achieving Net Zero, supported by significant investments in low carbon energy. Read Make UK’s Net Zero report here.
East Midlands Hydrogen is spearheading the UK’s largest inland hydrogen cluster to revolutionise energy in the region. This industry-led initiative is accelerating the local production, distribution, and use of hydrogen, targeting the decarbonisation of industry, mobility, and power generation. It is dedicated to creating high-skilled jobs and training facilities, supporting major industries, startups, and scale-ups in their efforts to achieve net zero emissions and energy independence, while also promoting economic equality through the government’s levelling up agenda.
Clean growth is crucial for the UK due to its benefits for environmental protection, economic resilience, energy security, and public health. It supports the UK’s climate goals, including achieving net zero emissions by 2050, while fostering economic opportunities in emerging green industries. Additionally, clean growth enhances energy independence, reduces pollution improving public health, and positions the UK as a leader in green technology. It also helps address social and regional disparities, promoting equitable development across the country.
