DDay80 DDay80

The sun was shining 🌞 & the Acres grill was flaming 🔥🌭 🤤

It was fantastic to mark the anniversary with a bbq for our staff, veterans & cadets, along with local MP Heather Wheeler.

We set up a memorial candle station designed and manufactured by Acres. There was plenty of food, some retro soft drinks along with tea and biscuits.

Our BBQ event is just one of many events we do throughout the year as an act of Remembrance or to raise awareness/ support the Armed Forces.

This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings. On June 6, 1944, the world witnessed the largest seaborne invasion in history, known as D-Day. This significant event involved a meticulously coordinated assault by Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy, France. Alongside the intense seaborne landings, a series of daring airborne operations were conducted to secure key positions inland. Together, these efforts marked the beginning of the liberation of France and Western Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.

The D-Day landings were a turning point in the war, showcasing extraordinary bravery, strategic planning, and international cooperation. Thousands of soldiers, sailors, and airmen from the Allied nations faced formidable defences and immense challenges, demonstrating unparalleled courage and determination. The success of this operation paved the way for the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany and the restoration of peace in Europe.

Acres Engineering honours the service and sacrifice of the D-Day generation. We remember and pay tribute to the valor of those who fought and the resilience of those who supported the war effort. Their legacy of bravery and dedication continues to inspire us today, reminding us of the cost of freedom and the enduring spirit of unity and perseverance.

Why is it important to remember D Day?

  1. Historical Significance: D-Day was a pivotal moment in World War II. The successful landings on June 6, 1944, marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. It was a crucial step in the liberation of occupied Europe and helped to bring about the eventual Allied victory.
  2. Sacrifice and Valor: Thousands of soldiers from the Allied nations risked and gave their lives during the invasion. Remembering D-Day honors their bravery, sacrifice, and the immense cost of the operation in human terms. It ensures that their courage and dedication are not forgotten.
  3. Lessons Learned: Reflecting on D-Day helps us understand the complexities of war, the importance of strategic planning, and the consequences of global conflict. It provides valuable lessons on the importance of international cooperation, leadership, and the impact of military actions on history.
  4. Preservation of Peace: By remembering the events of D-Day, we are reminded of the horrors of war and the importance of striving for peace. It underscores the need to prevent future conflicts through diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation among nations.
  5. Inspiration for Future Generations: The stories of heroism and resilience from D-Day serve as an inspiration for future generations. They teach the values of courage, sacrifice, and the willingness to fight for freedom and justice.
  6. National and Cultural Identity: For many countries involved, D-Day is a significant part of their national history and cultural identity. Commemorating this day helps to strengthen national pride and foster a sense of shared heritage and collective memory.
