Derby College of Engineering & Technology Industry Advisory Board’s virtual meeting

17th July 2020

Acres Managing Director Luke Parker attended today’s University of Derby College of Engineering & Technology Industry Advisory Board’s virtual meeting.

Luke reported that ‘it was encouraging to hear about the universities pro-active approach to COVID-19, the phased adjustments that it is making, the blended approach to new educational models and the hybrid delivery model. It was also exciting to hear about how the university has been supporting the community, and the work with the Derby Economic Recovery Task Force in improving Derby’s future’.

The Board meets on a quarterly basis and has representation from the University as well as regional industrial partners including Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, National Grid, Severn Trent and Seddon Construction. The Board is a valuable forum connecting the University and Industry, allowing the University to understand the requirements of Industry and allowing Industry to advise/ comment on the Universities plans.

The Derby Economic Recovery Task Force’s plan is built around three key areas:

  1. Maintaining short-term confidence amongst local businesses and external investors
  2. Diversifying the city centre and Derby’s employment base
  3. De-carbonising the city
