According to the UK Space Agency’s 2024 “Size and Health of the UK Space Industry” report, the Midlands Space Cluster ranks #1 in the UK for concentration of space sector organisations, boasting over 338 companies, employing more than 3,850 people, and generating £476 million in economic value.
This recognition underlines what we already know — the Midlands is home to a rich ecosystem of advanced manufacturers, innovators, and problem-solvers driving the technologies that keep the UK competitive in aerospace, defence, and now, space exploration.
🌌 A New Era for UK Space
The newsletter also highlighted major structural changes across the national landscape, as the UK Space Agencytransitions into the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) — a move designed to streamline strategy and strengthen the UK’s position as a global leader in science and space research.
Meanwhile, the new UK Space Frontiers 2035 initiative, led by Professor Adam Amara, sets out a long-term vision for UK space science, shaping priorities for the next decade and beyond.
