Turnover moves past £2bn at snack giant’s UK arm – business is behind the likes of Cadbury and Oreo

Turnover has moved past the £2bn mark at a snack giant’s UK arm in what the company described as “another successful year”, according to new documents, but profits declined. The group is behind the likes of Cadbury – which is celebrating its 200th birthday this year – as well as Oreo, Toblerone and Belvita.

Mondelez UK operates as a subsidiary of Mondelez International, which is based in the US.

It has reported a turnover of £2.21bn for the year to 31 December 2023, up from £1.95bn in 2022.

However, pre-tax profits fell from £131.4m to £88.1m over the same period.

A statement accompanying the results said: “2023 was another successful year for the company with growth in turnover despite the cost of living crisis in the UK.

“We made sure our brands and categories were in a robust position and we continued to prioritise safety.”

It added that the increase in turnover was “achieved thanks to strong customer relations, marketing and innovation”.

In accounts for Cadbury UK, the Birmingham-based chocolate maker’s turnover rose from £142.9m to £155.8m, while pre-tax profits reached £42.3m, falling from £33.8m.

Cadbury was founded In 1824 when John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop on Bull Street, Birmingham. Among groceries, he sold cocoa and drinking chocolate – which he prepared himself using a mortar and pestle.
