Burner Stillage

Drawing Number: AD-1744-2020-03-2

Scope

Develop a solution to assist with the build of ‘burner halves’ as they are fabricated on a lifting table. The solution must also have the ability to hold the completed burner so that it can be transported to the next process safely.

Solution

Our client specialises in the development and manufacture of atmosphere management and life support systems for submarines. Among their various systems, “burners” refer to their gas management solutions used to maintain a safe atmosphere within these enclosed environments. Our clients management systems include technologies for removing harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H₂) from the submarine’s atmosphere. These systems typically convert these gases into less harmful substances like carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water vapour through oxidation processes. Our client offers both low-temperature and high-temperature solutions for this purpose. The low-temperature solution uses a precious metal catalyst that operates at ambient temperatures and is effective even in the presence of water vapour, while the high-temperature solution uses a Hopcalite catalyst that operates at temperatures above 200°C. These burners are integral to ensuring the safety and efficiency of submarines by continuously managing and purifying the air to maintain a breathable atmosphere for the crew.

Trolleys are effective for moving components around, especially in environments like manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and factories, for several reasons:

  1. Ergonomic Benefits:
    • Reduction of Physical Strain: Trolleys minimise the physical strain on workers by allowing them to push or pull heavy components rather than lifting them. This reduces the risk of musculoskeletal injuries and fatigue.
    • Improved Worker Efficiency: By easing the transportation of heavy or bulky items, trolleys enable workers to move more items in a single trip, increasing overall productivity.
  2. Safety:
    • Stability: Trolleys provide a stable platform for transporting components, reducing the risk of dropping or damaging items during movement. Many trolleys are designed with safety features like brakes and guardrails to further enhance stability and control.
    • Minimised Accidents: Using trolleys can help prevent accidents caused by manual handling, such as slips, trips, and falls, by keeping heavy loads securely on a wheeled platform.
  3. Versatility and Customisation:
    • Adaptability: Trolleys can be customised with different sizes, shapes, and features (like shelves or compartments) to suit specific types of components or tasks. This adaptability makes them suitable for various industries and applications.
    • Specialised Designs: Some trolleys are designed specifically for particular environments or items, such as anti-static trolleys for electronics or reinforced trolleys for heavy machinery components.
  4. Efficiency:
    • Time-Saving: Trolleys allow for the efficient movement of multiple components at once, reducing the time needed to transport items across a facility. This is particularly beneficial in large manufacturing or assembly areas.
    • Streamlined Workflow: By facilitating the quick and easy transport of parts and tools, trolleys help streamline workflows and ensure that components are readily available where needed, reducing downtime and bottlenecks in production processes.
