Scope

Develop a solution for storing and moving pipework fittings around the manufacturing facility.

Materials:

• Main Outer Frame: Fabricated from 40mm x 40mm x 3mm box section.
• Drawer Assemblies: Constructed from 2mm mild steel sheet.
• Back Panel: Made from 5mm thick steel for ballast.

Dimensions:

• Width: 940mm
• Depth: 738mm

Drawer Configuration:

• Opening Side: Drawers open on the 940mm side.
• Handles: Positioned on the 738mm sides for easy maneuvering.

Safe Working Load (SWL):

• Bottom Drawer: 100kg
• Middle Drawer: 75kg
• Top Drawer: 50kg

Design Details:

1. Frame Construction:
   • The main outer frame will be constructed using 40mm x 40mm x 3mm box section to ensure a sturdy and robust structure.
2. Drawer Assemblies:
   • Each drawer will be fabricated from 2mm mild steel sheet, providing a balance between durability and weight reduction.
3. Back Panel:
   • A 5mm thick back panel will be included to provide additional ballast, enhancing stability when the drawers are extended.
4. Drawers:
   • The drawers will be designed to open smoothly on the 940mm wide side of the unit.
   • Handles will be installed on the 738mm deep sides for easy handling and movement around the shop floor.
5. Load Capacities:
   • The bottom drawer will have a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 100kg.
   • The middle drawer will support an SWL of 75kg.
   • The top drawer will support an SWL of 50kg.

Additional Considerations:

• Ensure all welds and joints are structurally sound and capable of handling the specified loads.
• Incorporate a locking mechanism for the drawers to prevent accidental opening during movement.
• Consider the inclusion of casters or wheels to facilitate easier movement of the unit, depending on the specific requirements and shop floor layout.

This specification aims to provide a functional and durable drawer unit with reduced weight and optimised dimensions for improved maneuverability and efficiency on the shop floor.
