Acres helps bring “Shared Lines” sculpture to life for art exhibition
Recently we were thrilled to be invited to attend the unveiling of “Shared Lines” a stunning sculpture by Stevie Davies inspired by the work of 20th Century Artist Ronald Pope, which we helped to being to life.
Funded by the Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant to fund “Humanity, nature & Creativity”.
The event marked the opening of the Secret Sculpture Garden at Melbourne Hall, a literal stone-throw from Acres HQ. Which is part of the Melbourne Arts trail, running until September 20th, and features a multitude of stunning nature-inspired pieces.
We were approached in spring to help with the creation of the piece – our flatbed Laser cutter made short work of the figures, these were then welded to a base plate – The piece is made from mild steel and is intended to weather in time. The glass inlays were created by Stevie and volunteers in the Melbourne Creative Gallery making this a truly local project.
Work began in June with a site visit by Stevie and Melbourne Festival organiser Sharon Brown, to discuss options and look at designs.

Once a design had been finalised in CAD, we invited Stevie back into the office to see a prototype in cut on out flatbed laser cutter.

After a couple of tweaks the design was signed off and we got to work cutting the full set of 3 figures and base plate on the laser.

We also supplied a 100% scale printed plan for her to start mocking up the glass inlays, which she and the team at Melbourne Creative Gallery made ready to start the final build.

Once the figures had been finished they were welded to the base plate and Stevie could start inlaying the glass panels.

Once complete our team helped to move the sculpture into its place at Melbourne Hall gardens for the 2 month long exhibition.

With all of the pieces in place, on a sunny evening in August we were invited to a private opening ceremony and viewing of the exhibition, with speeches by the organisers and artists, and many stunning large scale pieces inspired by nature.
