E4 Front and Rear Suspension Trolleys

E4 Front and Rear Suspension Trolleys – Ref: 2015-09-11973

The suspension trolleys have been developed for a major international client operating within the aerospace industry. We were approached to develop an alternative to the existing wooden transit trolleys on site which are being phased out. This move away from wooden kitting equipment is to avoid any FOD – foreign object damage. Following the success of the prototype solution we were requested to produce 3 more units.

Scope of work:

To manufacture and deliver to site an E4 Front and Rear Suspension Trolley to drawing number: AD-773-2015-09 for use within an Aerospace Repair & Overhaul Facility.

This solution is suitable for transportation and storage of components ready for the build or strip process. The design provides good visual awareness and a safe non-touch environment for the kit of parts.

The trolley frame has been manufactured from 30mm box section, chosen for its combination of weight and strength. The unit is mounted and 4 off 100mm diameter castors. The castors are fitted with a soft cushion tyre consisting of a non-marking, blue elastic rubber with a black plastic centre. The castor plates are zinc plated steel with hard wearing double ball race and swivel head. Each castor has a load rating of 350kg.

To provide the most flexible ‘turn on its own axis’ feature; we have departed from the usual 2-fixed and 2-swivel castors solution by providing 4 swivel castors.

Production models feature plastic coated hanging bars, which minimise damage to structural components. A machined nylon holding fixture has been specially designed to hold the strut arms apart when in storage to eliminate damage.

Smaller parts will be housed in fully machined colour coded and labelled foam pockets, manufactured from LD45 foam material. Using foam eliminates potential metal to metal contact, maintaining the part in its individual safe environment.

To provide a durable hard wearing finish the unit has been powder coated in Blue BS4800 20D45.
