National Manufacturing Day 2022

7th July 2022

To celebrate National Manufacturing Day, we invited children to visit our site.

The invitations were sent to Derbyshire and Nottingham Cadets members, parents and guardians of children at local Junior schools and shared on social platforms. We were looking for children interested in engineering and I think we found the nations future industry leaders!

Our guided tour began at the design, coding and 3D printing station. We certainly loved how engaged the children were with our technical specialists. They were given information about the processes our in-house designers follow and could view our in-action 3D printer.

Fabrication was the next process our hosts took the visitors too. One of our fabrication engineers gave the children a demonstration and spoke about the tools he uses day- to- day. The insight was an amazing interaction for the children; we had one child say they enjoyed fabrication the most on their feedback form.

Management from Acres rented a virtual welding machine for the children to enjoy whilst on their guided tour. Employees from Acres were even caught enjoying the stand, trying to beat each others scores. SIF Weldability are a company who sell a range of products such as welding equipment and supplies. Their virtual welding product was educational, effective and fun! Our in-house engineer did an excellent job of showing the children how the machine worked and wrote down their scores for the welding competition.

Our Production Manager and Managing Director spoke to the children about assembly. Demonstrations were given from the products and equipment on show. It was interactive and the children took information away about the assembly process. We also had one of our powder coat engineers show and tell the children about the procedure and supplies they use to paint the products.

Lastly, another of our engineers spoke to the children about the laser cutting machine. An insight to the in-action machine was wonderful and many of the children said they enjoyed the experience of watching it cut through the steel.

It was a fantastic experience! One child said: “it was fascinating” and another mesmerized saying “wow!” throughout the event. We are so glad the children had a great time. Thank you to all the parents that brought their children along to the event, we hope we’ve encouraged them to become the nations future industry leaders!
